1. TECHNICAL SUPPORT FUNDAMENTALS

DESCRIPTION

This module aims at preparing you for a role as an entry-level IT-support specialist by introducing you to the world of information technology: computer hardware, the Internet, computer software, troubleshooting and customer service.

WHAT WILL YOU LEARN?

  • Understanding how the binary system works.
  • Assembling a computer from scratch.
  • Choosing and installing an operating system.
  • What’s the Internet, how does it work, and what is its impact on the modern world.
  • How applications are created and how they work under the hood of a computer.
  • Utilizing common problem-solving methodologies and soft skills in an Information Technology setting.

2. COMPUTER NETWORKING

DESCRIPTION

This module covers the fundamentals of modern networking technologies and protocols and gives an overview of practical applications and network troubleshooting.

WHAT WILL YOU LEARN?

  • Computer networks in terms of a five-layer model.
  • Understanding standard protocols involved with TCP/IP communications.
  • Network troubleshooting techniques and tools.
  • Network services such as DNS and DHCP.
  • Basics of cloud computing and storage.

3. OPERATING SYSTEMS

DESCRIPTION

Through a combination of video lectures, demonstrations and hands-on practice, you’ll learn the main components of an operating system and how to perform critical tasks such as managing software and users, and configuring hardware.

  • Navigating through Windows and Linux filesystems.
  • Setting up users, groups and permissions for account access.
  • Installing, configuring and removing software on Windows and Linux.
  • Configuring disk partitioned and file systems.

4. SYS. ADMIN & IT INFRASTRUCTURE SERVICES

DESCRIPTION

During this module, you’ll be introduced to the infrastructure services that keep organizations up and running. You’ll first dive into cloud infrastructure setups, to, later on, learn how to manage and configure servers and how to use industry tools to manage computers, user information, and user productivity. At last, you’ll pick up on how to recover your organization’s IT infrastructure in case of a disaster.

  • Best practices for choosing hardware, vendors and services.
  • Infrastructure services and how to manage them.
  • Working with cloud environments.

5. SECURITY

DESCRIPTION

This module introduces you to the threats and attacks that you might face and the ways they can show up. You’ll learn about encryption algorithms and how they are used to safeguard data, to later focus on the three A’s of information security: authentication, authorization and accounting. You’ll also dive into network security solutions such as firewalls and wifi encryption opportunities.

  • How encryption algorithms and techniques work, as well as their benefits and limitations.
  • Various authentication systems.
  • Differences between authentication and authorization.
  • Evaluating potential risks and ways to reduce it.
  • Securing a network.

Help desk technician

Help desk technicians provide technical support and assistance, whether on the phone, in person, or remotely, related to computer systems, hardware, and software.

Systems analyst

System analysts use computers to design new IT solutions, modify, enhance or adapt existing systems and integrate new features or improvements in order to improve business efficiency and productivity.

Support specialist 

IT support specialists provide organizations with IT support to optimize operational efficiency. They are responsible for resolving technical issues, maintaining hardware and software installations, and improving IT systems.

Database administrators

Database administrators are responsible for accurately and securely using, maintaining and developing computerized databases within a wide range of public and private sector organizations.

IT technician

IT Technicians diagnose, repair, and maintain hardware and software components to ensure the smooth running of computer systems.

Computer user specialist

Computer user specialists help individual employees work through computer problems. They ask questions to diagnose a computer problem, and then walk users through steps to resolve the issue.
