Tailor-made Digiskills: SAP Ghent

(Pilot 1/06/2021 - 31/05/2023)

The need for digital skills will increase in just about every job in the coming years. Yet companies have so far been hesitant to invest in these much-needed skills. By joining forces with the city of Ghent, BeCode hopes to gain more insight into the nature of the gap and the doubts that prevail among employers and employees. These insights will in turn act as the driving force behind the development of a training pathway aimed at closing the digital gap.

The required level of digital skills will rise in almost every job in the coming years. Yet employees today do not always have the much-needed digital skills to do their jobs properly. As the lack of the right skills puts a serious brake on rapid digitalisation, we can expect companies to increasingly invest in these digital skills, as well as in recruiting and retraining employees with digital potential. Nevertheless, this barrier remains very high to date.

In this project, we therefore not only want to thoroughly map the digital skills gap, but also what the inhibitions are among both employers and employees to start using them (on a large scale). We then aim to help a dozen companies, open to reskilling their employees, close their digital skills gap via a pilot project.

To pursue this goal, based on our practical experience, we develop a tailor-made comprehensive approach.

This includes:

  • A thorough sensitisation with a view to removing the identified obstacles and making the opportunities more tangible (and this adapted to each target group).
  • An analysis of the skills gap and the necessary training offer.
  • A proposal of concrete and modular training, in particular around the competences required to start working with an ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) system, as an end user or to manage the implementation and maintenance of the system.
  • A modular training path, including the recruitment of job-seeking participants (possibly supplemented by existing employees of the partner companies), the continuous acquisition of feedback, the fine-tuning of the training offer as well as the matchmaking with the partner companies in order to maximise flow into the labour market.

Given the high demand for profiles with knowledge of the new ERP system of market leader SAP 4/HANA and the unique partnership with the People To Work programme, the pilot project will be developed in this context.

In order to identify the digital gap as well as the inhibitions among employers and employees, we mainly focus on consultancy companies and companies using SAP as their ERP system.

We welcome jobseekers with some business experience and employees who want to add a digital component to their skillset to follow a new, future-proof career path in our pilot project.
